The Study of Children's Spiritual Education from Imam Khomeini's Viewpoint

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the spiritual education of children from Imam Khomeini's point of view. Data were collected by documentary method. The findings show that there are three stages in the development of spirituality: childhood's adolescence and adulthood, which evolve at any stage of the spiritual development phase. The factors involved in spiritual education from Imam Khomeini's point of view include family, school, training centers and the mass media, each of which is influential in this area and there is a need to pay special attention to each factor’s role. The Islamic model of spiritual education also seeks to discover the truth of God in spiritual affairs and to extend this knowledge to the development of the soul in all its dimensions and to the realization of a pure and happy life in all respects, which can be seen in the works and teachings of Imam Khomeini. From Imam Khomeini’s perspective, the essence of human being is the soul, and the body is a means of its manifestation and promotion. He emphasizes that happiness is a spiritual refuge that should be taken into account from childhood, and spiritual education of children should not be confined to religious education and practice of worship but needs to include other aspects of spiritual development as well.
