Re-examining Child Development based on the role of adverbs in speech structure: Insights from a Qur’anic Developmental Model

One of the foundational themes in human life is development, which is closely intertwined with both human existence and guidance. Early childhood holds particular importance in the process of education and upbringing, and speech recognized as a manifestation of the trajectory of human cognitive development can serve as a tool for identifying developmental deficiencies during this stage. Given the limited attention paid in the research literature to the concept of speech and its role in human development, the purpose of this study was to re-examine child development based on the role of adverbs in speech structure, grounded in a Qur’anic developmental framework. The research employed a qualitative design, with analyses conducted through interpretive and conceptual examination of key texts within the Qur’anic developmental corpus, focusing specifically on the structure of human speech. Accordingly, the study proceeded through four stages: an in-depth review of theoretical foundations; content analysis and conceptual inference to extract developmental indicators; expert panel sessions for conceptual validation of the indicators; and finally, the development of component-based charts depicting growth and developmental deficits, centered on the role of adverbs within children’s speech structure. The findings resulted in the construction of a matrix of diagnostic descriptors for developmental progress and developmental deficits across three indicators: nutq (expressive behaviors), qawl (formed beliefs), and kalām (integrated speech). These descriptors were formulated around four key constraints: causality, possession, spatial-temporal positioning, and differentiation. The results indicate that a child’s understanding of constraints and boundaries serves as a foundation for receiving and organizing knowledge, and that each adverb within its specific functional domain in speech structure plays a meaningful role in shaping the child’s behaviors and beliefs. Thus, developing indicators and diagnostic descriptors for identifying developmental characteristics or deficiencies from this perspective can have significant educational implications and may provide a basis for corrective interventions in the child’s verbal–developmental processes.
