Investigating the Relationship between Personality Traits and Value Systems with Marital Satisfaction of Couples

Abstract

The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between personality traits and value systems with marital satisfaction of students of Islamic Azad University, North Tehran Branch. This research was applied in terms of purpose and was conducted using a descriptive-survey method. The statistical population of this study was married female students of Islamic Azad University, North Tehran Branch, 110 people were selected based on the Cochran formula by simple random method. The main data collection tool was a standard questionnaire, whose validity in this study was calculated and confirmed by face value and its reliability by Cronbach's alpha method. The results obtained were analyzed using normality, correlation, and regression tests. The software used was SPSS version 23. The general hypothesis of this study was that there is a relationship between personality traits and value system and the level of marital satisfaction of married female students of North Tehran University. The results showed a significant relationship between them, and the general hypothesis was confirmed. The second hypothesis of this study was that there is a relationship between personality traits and the level of marital satisfaction of couples. The results showed a significant relationship (significant value: 0.006) between them, and the second hypothesis was confirmed. The third hypothesis was that there is a relationship between value system and the level of marital satisfaction of couples, and the results showed a significant relationship (significant value: 0.002) between them, and the third hypothesis was also confirmed. Accordingly, in order to improve the level of marital satisfaction, there is a relationship based on various components of the value system and personality traits such as power, independence, arousal, conformity, security, tradition, pleasure, success, benevolence and cosmopolitanism, extraversion, neuroticism or anger, conscientiousness, openness to experience and agreeableness, and to strengthen the family.
